A high school teacher has pleaded guilty to a felony charge in Alabama after being accused of exposing a schoolgirl to pornography during a classroom class trip to visit her family in rural Arkansas.
A judge on Tuesday sentenced James R. Jackson to 10 years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender.
Jackson, 55, faces up to five years in state prison if convicted.
Court documents say Jackson and a male colleague in April 2015 used a device that allowed them to view child pornography and a phone app to communicate sexually explicit images to a 16-year-old girl.
The victim told police that Jackson and his friend visited her school and discussed sexual topics, including pornography, with her, the report said.
Jackson told investigators that he did not remember the incident, but said he was a part of the discussion and had sexual intercourse with the girl.
Prosecutors said the victim’s parents notified the sheriff’s office in February of this year after seeing the girl on a Facebook page associated with Jackson.
The sheriff’s department is reviewing Jackson’s Facebook account and other online activity.
